Yeast Infection : How to Cure it Easily?
What Is a Yeast Infection?
Yeast infections are surprisingly common and can occur in both men and women, although they are most common in women. This type of infection can affect the penis and scrotum of a man but more commonly affects the vagina. There is yeast present in most health vaginas but if the yeast levels go out of control, this can lead to a yeast infection.
Also known as vulvovaginal candidiasis, a vaginal yeast infection is not an STD but is simply down to excessive growth of the healthy yeast in the vagina. This can lead to discomfort and embarrassing symptoms, but it can also be cleared up without much of a problem. The infection is caused by a variation of yeast known as candida, hence the name given to the condition.
What Can Lead to Vaginal Changes?
Often, this type of yeast infection occurs as a result of changes in the vagina. These changes can be the result of a range of factors such as hormone changes resulting from your menstrual cycle, pregnancy, or a reaction to the chemistry of another person’s genitals. It can also be caused by certain medications such as antibiotics as well as conditions such as diabetes or a weak immune system.
Some of the Symptoms
As mentioned earlier, these infections are not sexually transmitted, although they can occur as a result of a bad reaction to another person’s genital chemistry. In men, a yeast infection can cause redness and irritation around the scrotum and penis. In women, it can cause a variety of symptoms such as:
• Vaginal discharge
• Severe itching
• A burning sensation
• Redness around the vagina
• Pain or discomfort during sex
• Stinging sensation when urinating
Naturally, while these symptoms are not serious, they can cause a lot of discomfort and embarrassment, so it is only natural that sufferers want to get the infection dealt with as soon as possible. This is also important because the longer you leave it, the worse the irritation, itching, and burning will get. In fact, there are some severe cases where the infection can result in sores and fissures on the vagina.
Important Points when You Have a Yeast Infection
There are a number of important points that you should bear in mind if you are suffering with a yeast infection. The first is to try and avoid scratching even though the itching may seem unbearable at times. Of course, this is not the type of place on the body that you would scratch in front of others but there are many women that will excuse themselves in order to scratch and try to stop the itching. However, this is something that can make the irritation worse, and in some cases could lead to cuts that can then lead to further infection.
Another thing you should to is avoid both vaginal and oral sex until your infection has been treated and the symptoms have cleared up. When you have sex, it causes friction and if you still have an infection, this friction can either make the irritation worse, delay the healing process, or both. It is also worth noting that there are some medications that women use for a yeast infection that contain certain oils, and this can lead to the breakage of condoms.
Finally, make sure you are mindful about what you wear when you have a yeast infection. You should steer clear of trousers that fit too snugly and you should wear cotton undies to ensure your body is able to breathe. The more moist and warm your body is, the more the bacteria will thrive. You therefore need to ensure your body is properly aired and cool.
Getting Treatment for a Yeast Infection
The good news is that a yeast infection is not all that difficult to treat, and you can get anti-fungal medications that can help get rid of it in a matter of days. Obviously, the earlier you act and get treatment for your yeast infection, the easier and faster it will be to get rid of it.
There are medicated creams that you can get as well as suppositories, both of which can be purchased over the counter. If those do not work or the infection has become severe, it is important to seek advice from your doctor, as you may prescription medication.
Treating the Infection at Home
There are cases where taking steps at home could help you to prevent and treat yeast infections. If you have had a yeast infection before and you are certain that the symptoms are the same, it may be worth trying some home remedies. However, if you are uncertain whether it is a yeast infection, you are having severe symptoms, or you are pregnant, you should seek medical advice rather than trying to self-treat.
Some steps you can take to prevent or treat the yeast infection at home include:
• Friendly Bacteria: You can try eating yogurt that contains the friendly bacteria lactobacillus acidophilus to deal with a yeast infection. You can also get supplements that contain the friendly bacteria
• Oregano Oil: Some studies have suggested that oregano oil could help due to its antifungal properties. In order to try this remedy, you simply add three drops of oregano oil into water and drink daily
• Apple Cider Bath: Some have also suggested that a lukewarm bath with half a cup of apple cider vinegar could be effective in helping to eliminate bacteria. You should soak in the bath for around 15 minutes or so. However, be mindful not to have a hot bath, as this could make the problem worse
One of the other things you should try and do if you have a yeast infection is to reduce sugar intake as much as possible. Sugar enables yeast to thrive, which is not what you want when you have a yeast infection. So, avoid sweet treats and sugary drinks, cut out junk food with high sugar levels, and make sure you keep tabs on the amount of sugar you are consuming.
